The Downtown Riverview Business Association announces upcoming “ Mission Possible” Prosperity Forum event benefiting P.R.O. Kids.

Moncton , NB

The Downtown Riverview Business Association (DRBA) will host a Prosperity Forum on Tuesday January 26 th with proceeds benefiting Riverview P.R.O. Kids.

The goal of this event is to provide a forum where local business and community members can gather to learn just how the Town of Riverview is poised for growth and change in 2010. DRBA President Debbie Bayliss and Mayor Clarence Sweetland will guide attendees through an informative and entertaining evening of community spirit with musical entertainment for the event provided by Chris Colepaugh. “Riverview residents and business owners are naturally very proud of their community. People are engaged and want to hear first-hand the exciting things at play in our own backyards. With the increased development in Findley and a new school on the way, we have a lot to celebrate,” says Mayor Sweetland.

Heather Harris, Manager of Downtown Riverview Business Association, was selected as one of the first ten Chamber members given $100 each to execute a project that would foster positive change in the tri-community area. The Mission Possible campaign is designed to heighten the sense of community spirit in Greater Moncton.

When Heather was offered the “Mission Possible” challenge from the Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce, she knew that Riverview P.R.O. Kids was the organization she wanted to impact. Harris says, “I saw it as an opportunity to provide a positive experience to local children while creating a venue where we can celebrate the great things happening in the Riverview business community.”

Each year, hundreds of Riverview kids are unable to participate in registered sport, art, culture and recreational activities because their families cannot afford the costs.  Registration fees as well as equipment and transportation costs are beyond the reach of many families and their children miss out.  Many children who would love to play a sport, attend dance classes or enroll in a summer camp are left watching from the sidelines.  Parks and Recreation Community Coordinator, Karen Thompson heads up the P.R.O. Kids program. “This type of involvement is absolutely critical in the development of our youth. In a very discrete manner, we make it possible for these kids to get in the game.”

The Prosperity Forum will take place Tuesday January 26 th at the Riverview Lions Club from 5-7 pm. Tickets are $10 and available though Downtown Riverview board members RBC, Dents & Stones Automotive, Wag & Wash, AssureCare Pedorthics, State Farm, Sharpe Impressions as well as Treats Riverview Mall and Riverview Sobeys.
