The Downtown Riverview Business Association
was incorporated in 1989 as the the RBIC ( Riverview Business Improvement
Corporation ) the name was changed at the beginning of 2003 to better
reflect our primary areas of commerce and to maintain a similar theme
with the many of other business associations in the province.
The main focus of Downtown Riverview
is the maintenance and upkeep of the Business Improvement Area (BIA)
which runs from Pine Glen Road along Coverdale road and up to Trites
Road. This area comprises the section of town that was revitalized
in the early nineties via a streetscape program. The goal of the improvements
was to enhance the visual appeal and accessibility of the core business
district in our town. Sidewalks, curbing, landscaping, streetlights
and benches were among the most noticeable improvements of this program.
The end result being a much more polished business area in Riverview.
The association has expanded its
focus from simply keeping the BIA in good repair to include a number
of other services to assist the local businesses. We offer monthly
networking socials in addition to our general meetings, training programs
and advertising opportunities for member businesses as well as support
for local community events.
The association operates from
a annual levy collected from those businesses within the BIA. All
decisions and voting is done by a board of appointed directors from
within the business area. The executive is voted in annually at our
annual meeting from members of the board and comprises three positions:
President, Vice President and Secretary Treasurer.
The association at large works
closely with the Town of Riverview and other municipal organizations
to further our mutual goals of development and prosperity for the
businesses and ultimately the residents of the town.
All businesses are welcomed to
attend our general meetings and other events to stay apprised of the
current events and opportunities that are available in Riverview.
Today Downtown Riverview
represents 157 member businesses and continues to grow at a steady
pace.
