Sunfest Artisans Fair

The Downtown Riverview Business Association in conjunction with Parks & Recreation will be having an Artisans Fair this July 18th 2004 along the Riverfront in Riverview. The fair will be part of the 4 day long Sun Fest and will be drawing many people from outside of the Riverview area. The Sun Fest will include events for adults and children ranging from music to magic and arts to entertainment.

The Artisan fair will be on the last day of the Sun Fest Sunday July 18th from 10am until 5pm and will have a maximum participation of 50 displays. Our emphasis is on quality not quantity. We are aiming to have an emphasis on art to help the local talent that we have in the Riverview area promote themselves.

All of the artisans who attend must have artwork, crafts, or other items that are hand crafted by them or other local individuals. No retail items will be permitted.

The cost for the day is $40.00 per table and includes skirting for the table itself. The display and set up of artisan’s wares is up to each individual. The tables will be arranged along the Riverfront starting near the Gazebo and heading down towards the new bridge. Tables will be staggered along both sides of the trail. Given the setup of the tables people have ample space to set-up tenting or other such items without encroaching on another’s space.

Table allocation will be set up towards the middle of June and all people who have registered will receive detailed information regarding their table location and other pertinent details.

For registration and further details please contact our office or visit:

Summer Students

The association was lucky again this year to receive 3 summer students funded by the provincial government. The students, who will be starting on June 23rd, will once again help to keep or town beautiful and act as ambassadors to tourists traveling through our region. The students duties will include gardening and cleaning of our BIA, painting and touching up many of our streetscape elements that have been abused by the winter weather and much more. If you have any suggestions as to other tasks our summer students might do, do not hesitate to contact the office.

Profiles for Web site

With the launch of the web site and the site traffic now building up. It is clear that quite a few people are searching for businesses that do not have their profiles sent in yet. This resource can only be as good as the content it provides and nobody is better qualified to describe what they sell or offer than the owner of the business. This local business search is here for your benefit but unless you provide further information people with on see a default page indicating that there is no profile yet.

The profile need not be complicated, just a simple description of you business and perhaps a photo or other pictures of products etc. As always, you can contact the office if you have any questions.

Presidents Message

I would like to thank everyone for all of the support that I have had on May 10th. I am delighted to be your new councilor for the town and will continue to work hard with DRBA to support the association and be an active past president after our annual meeting in June.

I am very proud of the accomplishments of the DRBA and could not have done any of this without the help of so many people. We now have an excellent web site put together by our Executive Director Jeff Devos. Jeff has worked hard and done a superb job and this will be a benefit to all of our businesses. There is no cost to any of the businesses for this great source of advertising. I would encourage all of you, in and outside the BIA, to prepare a profile for Jeff to add to the web site.

Our new signage is close to being completed and we now have our new image on door decals as well.

We also are pleased to say that we are going to have hanging plants that will be properly looked after this summer and the Christmas lights will be well displayed this coming Christmas.

I would like to thank our Executive Director, Jeff Devos, for all of his hard work this past year. He has been proactive and made so many great things happen for our association.

Plan to attend our Annual Meeting on June 12th at the Lions Centre and it promises to be a short meeting and a fun event with a Casino night.

Sherry Wilson – President Downtown Riverview

Web site Launch Party

For those who could not attend please peruse the site and, if you have not done so already, send in your business profile. Information for which can be found on the site.
